About This Site...This website contains stories, photos and ideas collected in a series of adventures starting at the beginning of 2006 after I left my "normal" job and decided to travel the world. It is my aim to provide a source of information, ideas and hopefully inspiration. The site can be navigated through the links in the header. Continent pages contain a collection of stories relating to that area of the world, as well as some country specific travel tips. At the bottom of many of the pages you'll find small Google ads. Clicking on the links will help to support this site. If you find any of this material useful, or have any thoughts or suggestions for improving the site, I’d love to hear from you. About my photography...Photography is currently my main source of income. Over the last 3 years I've built up a collection of travel images which are available for license on a number of online "microstock" photo agencies on a royalty free basis. Typically photos can be licensed for as low as $1 for web-sized images. The photography page can be used to view my images at various agencies. Aspiring photographers will find these sites useful entry to commercial photography. As I develop this site, stories will have a link to lightboxes containing the images used in that story, and other related images. I currently shoot with an Olympus Digital SLR camera with professional grade lenses and process all files from RAW. My workflow is optimized from capture through to the final output to ensure that maximum image quality is retained, while considering the need to have a highly portable setup given that I spend most of my time traveling. For me, optical quality and capturing an image in the best light are of critical importance. For more about my camera equipment, workflow and stock agencies, see my photography page. About my travels...Countries visited: 37 (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Croatia, Czech Republic, Egypt, England, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Latvia, Lithuania, Macao, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Singapore, Syria, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam) Countries left to visit: 120 (depending on how you count them) In the coming years I will continue my journey through the Americas, Africa and Central Asia. My style of travel can best be described as backpacking. While this term means many things to many people, for me it means low budget, low impact travel, with a backpack. I generally stay in locally owned guesthouses and hostels (as opposed to 5-star resorts), frequently eat local food including street food and prefer to travel over land wherever possible. For me backpacking doesn't mean that I shun all the comforts of home, that I dispense with basic personal hygiene. It also doesn't mean that I'm on some extended world wide pub crawl. In addition to photography, I aim to record some of my travel stories through this site. If you’re interested in using any of the material that you find here, please feel free to contact me. |
